The nose opens up to pomegranate, violets, cigar, orange peel and black tea. Wild blueberries, blackberries and raspberry liqueur, cigar box, orange chocolate and textured tannins are all kept in balance by nuanced acidity.
Deep garnet in color with heady cherry liqueur, cassis, blackberries, clove and sage on the nose. The mid-palate opens up to wild berries, minerals, chocolate orange, tobacco and hints of black olive that continue to the finish of impressively deep, luscious tannins that coat the palate and linger there for an impressively long time.
Looking first at the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Northern Gale from winemaker Cameron Woodbridge, it’s 100% varietal and has impressive, medium-bodied aromas and flavors of red currants, cassis, tobacco, and lead pencil. Aged a full 28 months in just 30% new oak, it hits the palate with silky tannins, considerable elegance, and a pure, clean, lengthy finish. This is a classic, balanced, beautiful Napa Valley Cabernet to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years.
